~August~

In true Davis style we celebrated multiple times.

On August 4th, Lucy’s actual birthday we had a quiet celebration with the Kelly family.

Then we invited Lucy’s aunts, uncles, grandparents, and her best buddy, Emma for a celebration at home.

She’s our funny girl.  She loves to carry bags of any kind, wear bracelets, eat every thing in sight, and play peak-a-boo. She loves her big brother and anytime he is hurt or crying she goes over and pats him on the back. (She also irritates him to no end by climbing all over him.) When he gets up in the morning she can’t contain her excitement.  She loves books.  During story time each night she will sit on my lap to read a story.  After each book she climbs down, acts like she is leaving, and looks back to see what book I am holding up.  She comes running back and climbs back on my lap.  I don’t know why she started this game, but story time is a good time.  We love our Lucy so much!

~Jack starts Preschool~

Jack goes to preschool at our church.  He LOVES school so much.  Each morning he asks “Is it a preschool day?” He comes home and reports what job he had that day. When I ask him who he played with he often reports that he played with Dames (he is referring to my dear friend, Chollet’s son James who is not in his preschool class, but living in South Carolina.) So, not all the information we get is the real deal. He loves to be the calendar helper.  Apparently he is like the president of the see-saw.  He stands by the see-saw and yells, “Who wants to go on the see-saw with Jack?” He then precedes to explain how the see-saw works to his peers.  This is second hand information from his teachers and Poppie.  Since Jack is at preschool at our church he gets to have some extra one-on-one time with Poppie.  They often enjoy lunch afterward before Pops has to get back to work.  Now that mom is back from Oregon Lucy will be with her while Jack is at school.  Any time Mimi or Poppie can't help with Jack then Grandaddy or Aunt Jenny takes him to lunch and delivers him to his destination.  Jack, of course, loves all this attention.  He has started to expect it on the regular.  Me: “Mama and daddy have to go to work today.” Jack:“That’s ok, [insert loved one’s name here] can just get me and take me to lunch at McDonalds.  We can drink milkshakes.” The loved one’s names usually are the expected: Grandaddy, Aunt Jenny, Poppie, Mimi, Nana… but lately he has started to include some other loved ones… “Today I think Aunt Tarity should pick me up.” “Aunt Kelly and Christian and Carter are coming to my preschool today” and the latest, “Is Grandma picking me up?”… My theory is these are the people he misses the most… AS DO I!  Anyhow, next year Jack will definitely have to be in a five day program because he begs to go to school every day!

~September~

The beginning of the school year is always hectic for our family.  The kids are with me all day every day during the summer so getting back into a routine of getting up during the 6 o’clock hour and having to be somewhere each day is stressful and it is a big adjustment for us all.  Because the weeks are busy and exhausting we treasure our weekends together.  We go to local parks…

We went to Daddy’s work one weekend to see the airplane graveyard.  Jack was mesmerized by the planes and helicopters.

We’ve met up with the Kellys on a Friday afternoon for an early dinner and a walk on the beach. I tried to get some pictures of Jack and Emma but they were too fast.

We try to get to church, usually the 9:45 service so Jack can go to Sunday School.  He loves Sunday school… if it is not a preschool day his 2nd question is usually “Is it a Sunday School day?” After church we try to rush to lunch and home in time for nap time. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes they fall asleep in the car and won’t go back down.

Another fact about Lucy, she is a climber. You can’t leave her alone for four seconds or she will be in the middle of the dining room table, or even in the kitchen sink! But she is darn cute…

She also had to battle her first case of Strep throat… poor little girl was miserable.  After a few days of antibiotics and lots of tylenol and motrin she was stir crazy, climbing again, and entertaining herself with tissues.

And in our down time…

A friend of mine gave Jack his new art table (which he occasionally uses as the iPad table).  Jack says (almost every time we walk in his room) “Teck out my new art table!”

and in the hood the kiddos love to cruise with Emma in her Caddy.

We love to have visitors… for example, Aunt Linda and Uncle Paddy are always welcome!!! (the kids don’t like Paddy at all)

Linda takes the best pictures of the kids… Lucy literally strikes a pose for her.
