Mom’s birthday is kind of a big deal to us. We have been so blessed to have Mom’s help with the kids while Mike and I work. Mom’s retirement just happened to coincide with Jack being born. She has given us two days a week of free child care for almost four years. There are so many positives. Here are just a few… 1. Both of my children have an amazing relationship with Mimi. She knows what they like to eat, when they nap, some of their likes and dislikes, and they know her. 2. Poppie gets extra time with the grandchildren. Mimi and Poppie sometimes take shifts or tag team grandparenting duties on our two days a week. 3. Family dinners- we have started doing dinner at the Goodman house at least once a month… Uncle Josh makes an appearance, too. 4. Mimi loves to organize. This year since Jack has been in preschool Mimi hasn’t spent much time at our house. However, when she does I usually come home to an organized closet, laundry room, kitchen, bathroom, or (insert some annoying, typically unorganized space here). 5. We have to take less sick days. We are fortunate that we have my parents and Mike’s parents willing and available to help when there is a sick child and we can’t go to our daycare. 6. Jack and Lucy LOVE going. There are no rough mornings or fighting with Jack (who is NOT a morning person) when it is a Mimi & Poppie’s day. We are eternally grateful to my parents for their help with our two little blessings. So when Mimi’s birthday comes around we really try to show our appreciation.
This year we had a nice family dinner in honor of Mimi. Of course we had to have her favorite… SUSHI! We had a nice big table in a secluded area of the restaurant. Lucy roamed from loved on to loved one. Jack enjoyed sitting in between his grandparents. Uncle Josh showed off his beard.
We had fried bananas for dessert… I didn’t get a before picture…but they were yummy!
After dinner we went back to the house for some playtime and snuggles.
It was a wonderful night. We love our Mimi so much!
